Biography
For more than 30 years, Michael H. Schroder has maintained a broad defense litigation practice, handling numerous trials and appeals. He advises insurance clients on a wide range of insurance coverage issues, including both first- and third-party coverage matters, the defense of premises and transportation cases, the adjustment of large commercial losses and the pursuit of subrogation claims.
A member of the Property Insurance Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, Mr. Schroder is also a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. He participates as a speaker, a discussion leader and a panelist for litigation seminars on numerous subjects. For example, in October 2006, he presented on the Enforcement of Policy Provisions After Katrina at a seminar in Chicago for senior insurance executives sponsored by the PLRB and the FDCC. In 2012, Mr. Schroder was again named a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine.
As a 1972 graduate of Princeton University, magna cum laude, with a degree in History, Mr. Schroder obtained his Juris Doctor in 1976 from the University of Georgia, graduating with honors. He is a licensed pilot and past chairman of the Aviation Section of the State Bar of Georgia, as well as a member of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association.

Mr. Schroder obtained four defense verdicts in the last 18 months for insurance companies in bad faith suits. In each case, the homeowners were found responsible for setting fire to their properties. In two of the cases, the insurance company successfully obtained a verdict on its counterclaim for payments to the mortgagee.
Additionally, Mr. Schroder serves as one of the Deans of the Litigation Management College presented each year at Emory University and is AV® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Interests/Additional Information
Mr. Schroder, a fourth generation native Atlantan, is married to Martiele, a native of Valdosta, Georgia, and they have two children in college.
